Florida has an address confidentiality program that allows victims to relocate and maintain address confidentiality through a "mail drop box" administered by the Attorney Generals Office. The program issues an ID card to participants that allows them to have a new social security and driver's license without attachment to their previous numbers. It also allows them to maintain address confidentiality with schools, work, utility companies etc. For more information call 1-800-500-1119.
Vulnerable and Special Needs Adults Hotline: 800-962-2873 The Adult Protective Services program, mandated by Chapter 415, Florida Statutes, is a system of specialized social services directed toward protecting vulnerable adults who are unable to manage their own affairs, from further occurences of abuse, neglect, or exploitation. After a report has been called into the Hotline it is referred to the Protective Investigations Unit closest to the location of the victim. The Unit office then dispatches a Protective Investigator within 24 hours. The investigator contacts the alleged victim and assess the immediate risk of second party abuse, neglect, or exploitation.

Depression

No one should have to live with depression. Left untreated, the disorder can grind life to a standstill, sometimes even resulting in suicide. Worse yet, children and teenagers are just as susceptible as adults

Fortunately, there's good news. With appropriate treatment, depression does go away. Depression is not a sign of inner weakness; it is a disease. And like other diseases, it can be fought and beaten.

Depression is one of the most common psychological problems, affecting nearly everyone through either personal experience or through depression in a family member. Each year over 17 million American adults experience a period of clinical depression. The cost in human suffering cannot be estimated. Depression can interfere with normal functioning, and frequently causes problems with work, social and family adjustment. It causes pain and suffering not only to those who have a disorder, but also to those who care about them. Serious depression can destroy family life as well as the life of the depressed person.

Impact of Depression:

  • Causes tremendous emotional pain
  • Disrupts the lives of millions of people
  • Adversely affects the lives of families and friends
  • Reduces work productivity and absenteeism
  • Has a significant negative impact on the economy, costing an estimated $44 billion a year

Treatments for Depression
Once a person is diagnosed, treatment can begin. Treatments vary depending on the type.

Does the person suffer from dysthymia? Cyclothymia? Bipolar disorder?

Each type requires a slightly different approach to treatment. Combinations of antidepressants and psychotherapy are very effective in most cases. Sometimes it's even possible to let the episode run its course — most depressive episodes resolve themselves after three or four months, although this won't work for long-term conditions like dysthymia and cyclothymia.

I am a survivor of Bipolar Disorder….If I over came this life crippling illness you can over come your current situation and become a women of peace and joy.  I have been free from all ant-depression medication since Oct 17th 1997.
